Side Hustle Ideas that are Tax Free

Well there’s only one as far as I know and it’s the best side gig I’ve done (so far). It’s called Matched Betting.

It is tax free (WHAAAT?!) so yes, you get to keep ALL of the profits. Don’t be worried, it is not gambling! It is matching bets by using a Bookies and a betting exchange such as Betfair.

Because the bets are matched, it doesn’t matter if you win, lose or draw – you still win!

You make money by unlocking the free bets from the Bookies.

Websites such as Profit Accumulator, Oddsmonkey or Profit Squirrel will guide you through the whole process, and explain it much better than I can.

There is little thinking involved. Just do exactly what they advise and you will make money!

The downside is that this opportunity is only available in the UK.

But you can pretty much do anything as a side hustle these days.

The opportunity to make money doing things that you enjoy, or things that you find easy, is limited only by your own imagination.

Side Hustle Ideas if you have Social Media/Admin Skills

As well as Matched betting, I’ve also tried my hand at Pinterest Marketing, but it is a much more involved side hustle.

Finding, pitching and signing on clients, then doing the work and getting the results promised all takes time.

If you want it to work, you have to treat it as such, or you won’t make any money.

The same can be said for all Social Media Management. People really need these services, and if you are knowledgeable about SM, go for it!

Social Media Management is more like a side business than a side hustle.

I think of side hustles as something you can dip in and out of, but if you are looking for something to grow and possibly even turn into your main hustle, there are lots of options for you.  I’ve included a mixture of both.

If you have any admin skills at all, you can offer your services as a Virtual Assistant.

Laura from makes it work for her as one of her favourite side gigs.

Side gigs for crafty people

Laura from has a craft business selling t-shirts that she personalises and embroiders, and then sells on Etsy.

In her best month so far this year she made £500 in profit.

Low-effort side income ideas

Emma from makes money by opening bank accounts in her and her hubby’s name to take advantage of the sign up cash bonus’s on offer.

I knew this was a thing, but I had no idea you could make regular money from it.

Best of all, the banks pretty much do all of the work for you these days so it’s probably the most effortless and easy side gig of all featured!

Get paid to Shop or Eat

Ellen from has a side hustle called Retail Arbitrage which involves buying items as cheaply as possible that can be sold for a profit.

Check out her post about it here:

This is done using coupons, so it would work best if you are based in the US.

But if you are in the UK, you could buy items cheaply from selling sites/charity shops and sell them on for a profit. Plenty of people are doing that in the UK successfully.

Francesca at has a few different side hustles, but mystery shopping is one of her favourite ways to make money.

Probably because you get paid to shop or eat, and also get the product/meal for free! What’s not to love?

She writes about how she does it and how you can too here:…/

Emma from makes extra money each month with various side hustles including Mystery Shopping and also makes money with phone apps. Read how here:

Find a gap in the market and FILL IT

If you have a hobby or knowledge of a certain type of industry, you’ll probably notice a gap in the market which is not being filled by anyone else.

When you know there are people willing to buy products or services that are not being offered, your side hustle could be an instant hit if you offer them what they want.

This happened to Charlotte from who is a Craft Blanks wholesaler.

She started her side hustle, along with her sister, as she was having problems finding a decent wholesaler for supplies.

It turned out to be a fairly big problem, which means they had a customer base pretty quickly.

They started the side business with less than £500 in March 2018 and by July they had over £16k worth of sales!

Charlotte spends about 25-30 hours a week on it and her sister spends more time than that.

So this is a serious side hustle and wouldn’t work for somebody that only has a few hours a week to spare.

But the business is already earning around £650 a month for Charlotte and more than that for her sister and expansion is on the horizon.

If you are looking for a side hustle that could quickly turn into a main hustle, this type of side business could be the answer.

Trinity at is another example of going BIG with her freelancing side hustle ideas (ranging from writing to website design) and turning it into a full time income.

She writes about it here, if you want to have a read:

If you don’t have much spare time to dedicate to a side hustle, is there any ways to earn?

Think about it. You’re at home, watching Netflix with the family and want to earn a bit of extra cash with little effort.

Surveys could be an option for you.

They’re not my favourite way to make money.

In fact, I’ve probably mentioned that a zillion times before. I avoid them like the plague!

BUT they do work for some people.

Fiona from is one of those people.

She has a post about how she uses Prolific Academic as her side gig:

Morgan from also uses surveys to make about £200 per month extra cash. She has a post about it here:

Money For Nothing

If making money for little effort is your thing, try using cashback sites.

I always try to get money off vouchers for EVERY purchase I make online. Some offers will also include cash back.

So I’m now happy to recommend TopCashBack to friends and family as I’ve been using it for years.

And guess what? This means that when anybody clicks on my referral link and uses the site to save money, I will get a small referral fee – for doing absolutely nothing except sharing the link.

This is a triple whammy and everyone should be doing this!

Make Money Testing Websites

Like most bloggers, Victoria from has many different side hustles going on each month.

She shares a monthly income report which is great because it breaks down exactly what she makes from each different side gig (I do love an income report!).

If you want to check out her income reports, here it is:…/categor…/income-reports.html

Victoria makes £5 per test on WhatUsersDo a great side hustle if you enjoy having a look at other websites. All you need to do is to report on how user friendly they are and the tests take about 5-10 minutes.

Make Money Blogging

But Victoria also makes a big chunk of money blogging (by running giveaways, collaborative blog posts and reviews).

In July 2018 she made almost £3.5K just from this one income source alone.

So if you have a blog and you are not already charging for sponsored posts and reviews, it may be worth exploring this a bit more.
